Wind Words

Alice Oswald has been commissioned as part of the Battle for the Winds project to create a series of Wind Poems. These will act as a shared ‘source text’ for the ensembles and participants to use, plunder and rework as they wish.

The eight poems in Conversations with the Wind provide common words and text that will give cohesion to the many different Battle for the Winds performances and events.

Alice Oswald is also producing a limited edition, hand printed copy of the poems in collaboration with typographer Kevin Mount. Illustrated and laid out to fit into a specially designed air mail envelope, these beautiful texts will be on sale throughout the three days of the Battle for the Winds finale in Weymouth and Portland from July 26 – 28.

The poems are also being used as a typography project by students from Weymouth College, who are working with schools to produce banners of illustrated letters inspired by the poems.
